What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid constituent of cannabis. It is one of at least 113 cannabinoids identified in hemp plans, accounting for up to 40% of the plant’s extract.
How Does CBD Work?
Cannabinoids, both those produced by the human body and those from the Cannabis plant, bind to receptors in the body’s Endocannabinoids system (ECS) to produce their effects. The two main receptors identified in the endocannabinoid system are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are concentrated in the brain, central nervous system, connective tissues, glands and organs. CB2 receptors are found in peripheral organs and the immune system. CBD works, not by acting on CB1 or CB2 receptors directly, but by increasing the body’s ability to use its own Endocannabinoid, anandamide.
